Italian-born and Philadelphia-based clarinetist Antonello DiMatteo is an accomplished performer and educator active throughout the tri-state area. He currently serves as Principal Clarinet with the Philadelphia Ballet, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, and the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey. He also frequently performs with The Philadelphia Orchestra and has appeared as a guest artist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, among others. As a soloist, Antonello has been featured with ensembles such as the Drexel University Wind Symphony, East Coast Mandolin Orchestra, Temple University Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra Popolare Italiana.
A dedicated chamber musician, Antonello is a member of Artcinia, an organization dedicated to bringing music into Philadelphia’s communities. He collaborates regularly with groups including Network for New Music, Sound Impact, and Ellipses Ensemble, and has premiered numerous contemporary works, such as Disruption and Hope by Paul Salerni, Haim by Polina Nazaykinskaya, and Somewhere Without a Map by Roberto Pace. His recordings appear on Navona Records, MRM, Caravan, RaRa, Finisterre, and Parma Records.
Antonello’s versatility extends beyond classical music into world traditions. He has performed extensively across the United States, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, appearing at major concert halls and international festivals. His innovative spirit also led him to develop and patent Electronic Italian Bagpipes, recognized by the Italian Department of Economic Development.
In addition to performing, Antonello is an active educator. He serves as Clarinet Professor at Rowan University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and Lehigh University, and has given lectures and masterclasses throughout Europe and the U.S. Antonello earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with highest honors from the Gaetano Braga Conservatory of Music in Teramo, Italy. After further studies across Europe, he moved to Philadelphia in 2015, where he completed a Master of Music in Performance at Temple University. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts at Temple University under the mentorship of Ricardo Morales. His principal teachers include Roberto Torto, Giammarco Casani, Sante Centurione, Samuel Caviezel, Paul Demers, Donald Montanaro, and Ronald Reuben.
